Ali Asif

Researcher, Builder, and Aspiring Computer Engineer

About Me

I've been asking questions my whole life, from "why doesn't Santa come to our house" as a kid to "why does noise wreck one quantum chip's performance but barely touch another" as a researcher, and chasing down the answers is still what drives me. Growing up Pakistani-American, I've spent just as long bridging two cultures, and that habit of connecting different worlds carried straight into how I think about computer engineering: standing at the intersection of software and hardware, since code is only as good as what it runs on. That curiosity has taken me from coding LEGO robots to studying EMG signals and quantum noise, and it's not slowing down.

Distinct Leg Muscle Activation Patterns Across Body Lean Directions

University of Colorado Boulder — STEM Research Experience 2026

A unique study bridging neurophysiology and computer science, as well as exposure to Machine Learning. EMG signals in the Tibialis Anterior and Gastrocnemius muscles were recorded as participants leaned in various directions. After exporting the activity, Python was used in Jupyter to interpret the signals and calculate which muscle activated more during the leans.

Comparing NISQ-Era Quantum Chip Architectures in Noisy Simulation of Grover's Algorithm

Arapahoe Community College — Independent Research

This study investigates how noise in Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) systems affects the performance of Grover's algorithm, and whether that effect differs across qubit architectures. Using Qiskit Aer on Google Colab, a 3-qubit Grover's circuit was run across noiseless, trapped-ion, and neutral-atom simulation environments over five trials each. The trapped-ion model stayed within about 1% of the noiseless baseline, while the neutral-atom model's success rate dropped to roughly 40%, showing that noise resilience depends heavily on the underlying hardware.

Experience

Sensei (Coding Instructor), Code Ninjas Castle Rock

Promoted to Camp Director · June 2025 – September 2026

Coached hundreds of kids ages 5–14 in game development using block coding, JavaScript, and robotics. Trained and led 4 interns and 4 camp assistants, teaching 4 summer camps and 2 winter camps across a 15-month tenure.

Library Volunteer, Castle Rock Library

July 2024

Spent the summer volunteering at the Castle Rock Library, including teaching a LEGO building challenge summer camp.

Leadership & Community

Student Body President — CEC Castle Rock

Grades 11-12 (VP then President)

Initiated monthly town halls for 400+ students to voice their concerns to school administration. Reorganized the committee structure within student council to boost efficiency.

NHS Vice President

Grade 12

Coordinating with local pet shelters for an NHS volunteering initiative. Organizing service projects for 15+ NHS members, ranging from book and food drives to a TED-Talk night.

Teen Court — Student Leadership Board Member

Grades 9-12

Serving on once-monthly teen-led juries that sentence juvenile misdemeanor offenders on the basis of restorative justice principles. Designing new sentencing options that help respondents recover, instead of punishing them.

TCF Colorado Chapter

Grades 10-11

Led peer-to-peer fundraising to build schools for underprivileged children in Pakistan. Helped organize the annual fundraising gala. Will visit a TCF school in January 2027.

Muslim Youth for Positive Impact

Grade 9

Ran activities for 50+ Arab refugee children and assisted their families in adjusting to life in Colorado. Organized food drives during Ramadan.
